What better way to start out a blog but with a top 5 article? Without further ado here are my
Top 5 reasons why Quake live is better than any MMO out there.
5.) Skill Based gameplay Quake Live's gameplay is RNG free! There are no rocket resists or crits. Everything that happens in the game is a direct result of the input of the players involved and preset timing of item spawns. This means that great players will almost always come out on top of random scrubs. There is no I win button. You might be able to camp the railgun spawn but sooner or later someone will find you and burn down your tent with a few well placed rockets. The only problem with Quake's skill based game type is, the learning curve is pretty steep. The good news is that with a basic understanding of the weapons and the levels you can still do well in most games.
4.) Spectator Sport Anyone who has watched a Quake frag video can attest to how cool things can look in Quake. Though not everyone will enjoy the timing and map control of players in a duel replay, most people will know who is winning by how many rockets to the face they land. It isn't like in WoW where one team is almost dead and they turn around and use their own cooldowns and destroy the other team. There are no cooldowns in Quake the only thing a spectator will need to know before they watch a quake match is that fire, electricity and bullets are bad and health and armor are good. The speed of the gameplay also lends to its watchability. To quote baseketball, "Kids these days have an attention span that can only be measured in nanoseconds!" If WoW is the NBA than Quake is the NBA Finals at its finest. The gameplay is quick and hard hitting. There are times where the game slows down to the pace of a chess match but it is no where near as aggravating as druid/priest/rogue mirrors.
3.) It isn't a big commitment Quake Live is not a big commitment like an MMO would be. In order to compete in an MMO you need to be max level. In order to get max level you need money to buy a premade from someone else or at least a week of playtime to level one. Then you need to get gear in raids in order to compete at the highest level. With Quake you can just step in and practice with friends or compete against strangers at anytime. There are no rare drop rocket launchers to farm, no epic lighning guns, only epic times with ordinary weapons. Growing up I had 3 older brothers who were all 10+ years older than me. Every Wednesday night after they were done with night class we would always log onto Quake 3 and frag out our frustration. This wouldnt be possible on an MMO. We would all need to level up first and only after that could we compete against others.

Sad but true
2.) The community I have had very few bad experiences with the Quake community. Many players will comment on a nice shot you make, or cheer you on when you are the last standing etc. When was the last time you had someone log on to your server and say anything other than "LEWL LUCKY BLANKET COUNTERSPELL FGT"? Can you imagine if instead they said "Nice counterspell" or even "good game"? That is how the Quake community feels. Sure there are the few people who feel like they are gods gift to earth and the only way to explain this to people is by typing the N word as many times as they can in every sentence they mash out, but they are few and far between and like the fat girl at the party, they are universal. Everywhere you look there are pockets of Quakers who will rant and rave about the good ol' days. With a community like this we are creating a new good ol' days for all. Come get some.

Finaly no more french tauntings like this one.
1.) IT IS FREE Thats right. Quake Live is free. It isn't free but with a monthly fee. It isn't free for now but pay for a few more expansions. It is honest to goodness FREE. All you need is a browser, the internet and a lust for competition.
Think I am wrong? Voice your opinions in the comments.

Here's the problem some MMO players have. It's an FPS, they simply don't like FPS's. I'm not defending people that try to play MMO's as some type of true competitive platform just sayin.

You are absolutely right. I know some guys who refuse to play fps games because they don't like them. For whatever reason. Whether they get beat right away or they just don't like the vibe. My first mmo I hated because I kept getting player killed by some high level in a low level zone. Eventualy I pushed through it and enjoyed the game. Thats all i ask mmo players do. Give Quake a chance.

Your reasons are simply sooooo correct. As click already mentioned, some people simply don't like FPS's. Although, if one is looking for a competitive fps, there is no better choice than QL. Still even I ain't a fan of PvP, I can see why people like MMO PvP on a competitive level (meaning WoW in this case), which has it's own strategic elements - mostly choosing the right skill, and to counter an opponent, without losing the edge.
